How we set these levels
  • Wind: strongest NWS forecast gust at Brevard beach towns in the next 12 hours. Under 20 mph Calm, 20–29 Use Caution, 30–44 Hazardous, 45+ Dangerous. A Wind Advisory sets at least Hazardous; a High Wind, Tropical Storm or Hurricane Warning sets Dangerous.
  • Surf: the larger NWS surf height for north or south Brevard. Under 3 ft Calm, 3–5 Use Caution, 6–11 Hazardous, 12+ Dangerous. A High Surf Advisory sets at least Hazardous; a High Surf Warning sets Dangerous.
  • Rip currents: the NWS risk as issued. Low is Calm, Moderate is Use Caution, High (life-threatening rips likely) is Dangerous.
  • Coastal flooding: NWS Coastal Flood Warning is Dangerous, Advisory is Hazardous, Watch or Statement is Use Caution. With no NWS product, we estimate the next high tide at Trident Pier (predicted tide plus how far the water is running above or below it) against the NWS minor flood level: at or above it Hazardous, within 0.5 ft Use Caution.
  • Boating: NWS Gale, Storm, Tropical Storm or Hurricane Warning for Brevard waters is Dangerous; Small Craft Advisory is Hazardous. With no marine alert, buoy 41009 seas: under 4 ft Calm, 4–6 Use Caution, 7+ Hazardous.
