Lagoon sales-tax renewal is on the Nov. 3 ballot
Brevard voters will decide whether to extend the Save Our Indian River Lagoon half-cent sales tax for another 10 years.
Brevard County voters will decide Nov. 3 whether to renew the Save Our Indian River Lagoon half-cent sales tax for another 10 years, according to WESH 2. The current tax, first approved by voters in 2016, expires Dec. 31.
WESH 2 reports the tax raises nearly $59 million a year for lagoon restoration work such as dredging and septic-to-sewer conversions.
Supporters, including the chairman of the Brevard Indian River Lagoon Coalition, point to improved water clarity, while some residents have raised concerns about spending transparency, according to WESH 2.
