Updates

  1. NWS Melbourne upgraded its Coastal Flood Watch to a Coastal Flood Warning for all of Brevard, mainland and barrier islands, from 2 a.m. Sunday to 8 p.m. Monday, according to alerts issued at 2:35 a.m. Saturday. Forecasters expect significant coastal flooding: coastal roads may close, low-lying homes, businesses and some critical infrastructure could be flooded, and significant shoreline erosion is expected. A High Surf Advisory also takes effect, with breaking waves of 7 to 11 feet in North Brevard starting 11 a.m. Saturday and 6 to 12 feet in South Brevard starting 8 p.m. Saturday, both through 8 p.m. Monday. Offshore, Gale Warnings cover Brevard's Atlantic waters from 8 a.m. Sunday to 8 p.m. Monday, with seas up to 15 feet. The weather service urges coastal residents to watch for rising water, never drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth, and stay out of the surf.
  2. NWS Melbourne issued Wind Advisories early Saturday for all of Brevard, according to alerts posted at 1:16 a.m. North Brevard (mainland and barrier islands) is under the advisory from 2 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday, and South Brevard from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday. Forecasters expect northeast winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, which could blow around unsecured objects, bring down tree limbs and cause a few power outages. The weather service advises securing outdoor items and using extra caution driving, especially in high-profile vehicles.

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for all Brevard coastal and mainland zones from 2 a.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday, according to NWS alerts issued Friday afternoon. A Coastal Flood Watch follows from late Saturday night through 8 p.m. Monday, and a high rip current risk runs through Monday evening.

NWS forecasters say breaking waves could build to 7-12 feet, bringing moderate to major beach erosion and minor to moderate flooding around high tide. The weather service strongly discourages going into the surf and warns that even a visit to the beach could become hazardous.

According to the NWS Melbourne forecast discussion, northeast winds of 15-20 mph with gusts of 30-35 mph are expected Saturday, and a Wind Advisory may begin Saturday evening for the North Brevard coast. Sunday looks like the windiest and wettest day, with gusts of 35-40 mph, a likely Wind Advisory and coastal rain chances up to 70-80%. Repeated showers could cause minor flooding.

Offshore, Small Craft Advisories are in effect, with gale-force gusts possible by Saturday evening and seas that could reach 12-15 feet late this weekend into early next week, the weather service said. Windy conditions and isolated to scattered showers are expected to continue early next week.
