All of Satellite Beach's beach crossovers are closed until further notice after heavy sand erosion left dangerous drop-offs near the stairs, according to the City of Satellite Beach, as reported by WFTV. First reported by WFTV.

City officials blamed strong winds and king tides and are asking residents and visitors to stay off the beaches and not walk on or through the dunes, WFTV reported. Staff will keep checking conditions and reopen the crossovers when it's safe, the city said.

The closure covers a lot of shoreline: the city lists 17 beach crossovers, including the access points at Pelican Beach Park, Hightower Beach Park and Shell Street Beach.

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has a Coastal Flood Warning and High Surf Advisory in effect for all of Brevard until 2 a.m. Wednesday, with breaking waves of 7 to 12 feet and life-threatening rip currents, plus a Wind Advisory until 8 a.m. Monday. More on the weather is in our coastal flood coverage.
