Early voting for the Nov. 3 general election runs through Saturday, Oct. 31. One of Brevard County's 10 early voting sites is in Satellite Beach: the Scotty Culp Municipal Complex, 565 Cassia Blvd., according to the Brevard County Supervisor of Elections. That's the address the City of Satellite Beach lists for City Hall.

Early voting hours

Early voting sites are open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, the Supervisor of Elections says. Registered Brevard voters can vote at any early voting site, no matter where they live. The office's early voting map lists all 10 sites with estimated wait times.

Dropping off a mail ballot

Secure ballot intake stations for voted mail ballots are at every early voting site, including the one in Satellite Beach, during early voting hours, the Supervisor of Elections says. Intake stations are also in the lobbies of the office's four locations in Titusville, Viera, Melbourne and Palm Bay during office hours. The office lists those hours as 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except observed holidays. Voters can also mail their ballot in the postage-paid return envelope.

Mail ballots must be received by the Supervisor of Elections by 7 p.m. on Election Day to be counted, the office says. Voters who got a mail ballot but decide to vote in person are asked to bring it with them to hand to an election official.

Election Day

Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, according to the Supervisor of Elections. Anyone in line at 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote. On Election Day, voters must vote at their assigned precinct polling place, which is listed on the voter information card and through the office's Find Your Precinct tool.

The office's precinct directory lists these Election Day polling places in Satellite Beach:

  • Scotty Culp Municipal Complex, 565 Cassia Blvd.: Precinct 405
  • David R. Schechter Community Center, 1089 S. Patrick Drive: Precincts 229, 415 and 437
  • Trinity Wellsprings Church, 638 S. Patrick Drive: Precincts 223, 404 and 444

What to bring

Voters must show a current, valid ID with a photo and signature, such as a Florida driver license, or two IDs that together show both, according to the Supervisor of Elections. Other accepted IDs include a U.S. passport, a debit or credit card, and a military, student or Florida ID card. A voter without proper ID can still cast a provisional ballot.

Campaigning or soliciting voters is not allowed within 150 feet of the entrance to a polling place or early voting site, the office says. Photography is not allowed in the polling room or early voting area, except of a voter's own ballot, according to the office.

What's on the Satellite Beach ballot

The sample ballots for Precincts 405, 415 and 437 include the City of Satellite Beach City Council race. Voters may pick up to two of the four candidates. As listed on the sample ballot, they are Billy Booth, Ron Culp, Frank Scaglione and Matt Zimmerman.

Those ballots also include races for U.S. Senate, governor and lieutenant governor, attorney general, chief financial officer, commissioner of agriculture, U.S. House District 8 and state House District 31, plus retention votes for a Florida Supreme Court justice and three 5th District Court of Appeal judges.

Every registered Brevard voter will see three statewide constitutional amendments, a county referendum and two School Board referenda. The county question is the renewal of the Save Our Indian River Lagoon half-cent sales tax (our earlier story). The School Board questions are the renewal of a 1-mill property tax for four years and the renewal of a half-cent sales tax for school facilities, security and technology. The Supervisor of Elections' list of city ballot questions does not include one for Satellite Beach. The ballot runs two pages, and Supervisor of Elections Tim Bobanic urged voters to check both sides.

Precinct ballots differ, so voters should check their own sample ballot. Questions can go to the Supervisor of Elections at 321-290-VOTE (8683).
