Heavy rain left streets, parking lots and parks under water in Satellite Beach and Indian Harbour Beach on Monday, as photos and video from SCW Affiliate Jean show.
The National Weather Service in Melbourne has a Flood Warning for central Brevard County until noon, naming Satellite Beach and Indian Harbour Beach among the places that will see flooding. Radar and rain gauges showed 4 to 8 inches of rain had fallen in the warned area, with 2 to 4 more inches possible, the weather service said. A county-wide Flood Watch runs through Monday evening.
The images show water covering a shopping plaza parking lot, neighborhood streets and swales, and the grounds of Gleason Park, where park signs and picnic tables stood in floodwater. Video shot from a vehicle along South Patrick Drive shows standing water in a wooded park area.
Brevard Emergency Management is asking people to stay off the roads unless they need to be out, and has asked residents to limit water use because flooding is straining the wastewater system. Never drive through flooded roads.
Farther south, a Flash Flood Emergency is in effect for Palm Bay, Melbourne and West Melbourne, and Melbourne Police have closed several flooded roads. See our Flash Flood Emergency story and our Flash Flood Warnings story for the latest.
