Confirmed by: NWS Melbourne: Coastal Flood Warning, NWS Melbourne: High Surf Advisory

Heavy surf ran up to the dune line in Satellite Beach on Tuesday, Oct. 27, sending spray over a rock revetment and the corner of a seawall beside a two-story beach house, video and a photo from a Space Coast Wire contributor show. Waves broke directly into the dune grass.

Warnings through Friday

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has a Coastal Flood Warning and a High Surf Advisory in effect for Brevard County's mainland and barrier islands until 2 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30. A high rip current risk runs through late Thursday night.

In its 2:26 a.m. Tuesday alert, NWS said breaking waves of 7 to 11 feet are expected in the surf zone and warned that significant shoreline erosion will occur. The office said coastal roads may be closed and low-lying property will be inundated, and it urged coastal residents to watch for rising water. Swimmers should stay out of the water, NWS said.

A separate NWS Wind Advisory for Brevard runs until 8 p.m. Tuesday, with northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph.

Beach access

Satellite Beach has closed all of its beach crossovers until further notice and asked people to stay off the beach and dunes, the Wire reported. More on the warnings is in our king tides story.
